VAAZHAKOOMBU THORAN [KODAPPAN]

INGREDIENTS
Banana flower (Vazhakoombu/Kodappan)-1 cup Green gram (cherupayar)-1/2cup
Cumin seeds=1tsp
Coconut-1/2[grated]
A little Turmeric powder
Green chillies-4
Salt – As required
Oil-1 tbsp
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Dry red chillies-3
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
METHOD
Clean n cook cherupayar in pressure cooker.Remove the first 3 – 4 outer covering of the vazhappoo and chop the rest very finely as u do for thoran.Add coconut oil and turmeric powder into the above chopped Vazhakoombu and mix well the whole thing using your hands to remove the Vazhakoombu's serum.Grind grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds in a mixer bowl and run it once to make it into a coarse form.Add Vazhakoombu mixture.Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and sauté dry red chillies and curry leaves.Add the Vazhakoombu mixture and mix well.Cook in a low flame.After sometime, remove the cover and add the cooked cherupayar into this and mix well.Continue cooking without the lid on, till done, making sure that it doesn’t get mashed....Have it with rice....
